Quest for a programmer...

Well...the search continues. I have made my first cuts and the top candidates are being asked back for second interviews.
I hate this part - the whole "I'm sorry, but..." call that must be delivered to all the rest of the applicants. Those not interviewed get a flush letter, but the rest get calls. It is really a tough call to make because no matter the reason you are telling them "no", you realize that they truly had hopes of getting this job. Thank goodness that most of them are currently employed. To tell someone without a job at all that you are not hiring them is hard at any point, but especially around the holidays.
Wow - I had better be careful - I sound like a softie.

I wouldn't say that you sound soft. I think it sounds like you care for your people. I think that was one of my downfalls of management. I cared a little to much for the people that were working for me. It also didn't help that they were my friends since I moved out here and knew nobody (not that this is totally a bad thing, but you need to know where to draw the line and I'm not sure I knew that). So hopefully the next time around it will be a different situation.

Best of luck on your interviews and if you need someone to telecommunicate look me up! J/K!

I agree with Christian. And as a recruiter, (in staffing for the past 5 yrs or so), saying "no" is always hard. (So is "you're fired" - much harder than The Donald makes it look.)

I'll be thinking about you - at least you are doing your candidates the courtesy of letting them know, rather than just ignoring them - that is ALWAYS the worst!!!

By the way - thanks for thinking of me - I will be posting again soon - just so much going on here, this is my first day even reading blogs in quite a while. It means a lot to hear from you!!! ...osm
